Hebel on the Mountain

Having an eco-friendly home can change the quality of life drastically and is one of the many reasons why William Kirkwood and partner Hope decided on Hebel.

Living in the Gold Coast hinterland, both Hope and Will were motivated on rejuvenating and reinventing their old 1980’s brick home the eco-friendly way.

So, when it came to look for an eco-friendly exterior product, they couldn’t look past Hebel and the fact its locally made.

“Being an older house and built in the 1980s, we found we were unable to purchase bricks which would match the existing ones,” Ms Kerslake said.

“That’s when I heard of Hebel through a friend.

“To be honest, I had never heard of it before but after researching it and seeing CSR Hebel was made right here in Australia using readily available raw materials; I was sold.”

While building a new home will always have some environmental impact, Hebel AAC treads fairly lightly on this planet, which was another motive for choosing Hebel.

After electing Hebel, they then began their hunt for local installers; and came across HWD Constructions.

“Hope first got in touch with me back in December 2019,” HWD Director Andrew Howard said.

“With a number of new build projects on hand, I was excited for the prospect of helping Hope and Will on using Hebel in their extension.”

Building a second storey and connecting their house to the standalone garage came with its problems but Hebel became a great solution.

“By connecting our house to the garage, we were able to extend the existing area significantly,” Mr Kirkwood said.

“However, bricks became loose, windows had to be moved and so we had challenging little areas which needed to be patched.

“But the boys just patched it up – they measured the space, cut the Hebel on-site and just slotted it in.

“It was just so easy.”

Deciding to finish their home with a clean, modern rendered look, Hope was thrilled to find out HWD Constructions also had a rendering service.

“Finding out that Andrew could also help us out with rendering our house was a blessing,” Ms Kerslake said.

Now completed, Will and Hope’s edgy and unique mountain sanctuary now boasts views of the Gold Coast and an enormous upstairs master suite.

“Working with three kids and trying to source contractors and quotes can become quite stressful so having HWD streamline this process was an incredible help.”

“And knowing the Hebel panels will help minimise energy use and that they won’t release any toxic gases into the environment, well we couldn’t be any happier.”

“We absolutely loved our house when we bought it however, now that we have more space for our family, we love it even more,” Ms Kerslake said.
